CYCLISTS READY TO ROLL FOR KELLY BRUSH RIDE BURLINGTON, Vermont (Sept. 8, 2009) The Kelly Brush Century Ride is set to go on Saturday with 30 teams of cyclists ready to roll for spinal cord injury research and prevention. So far over $140,000 has been raised. Team Ride-On, a team of 17 adaptive athletes who will participate using hand cycles, is the top fundraising team with more than $10,000 raised. "The community support Team Ride-On has received for the Kelly Brush Ride has been overwhelming," said team leader Patrick Standen, who is president of the board of the Northeast Disabled Athletic Association. "We’ve raised enough for the Kelly Brush Foundation to award grants for two hand cycles so others can improve the quality of their lives through adaptive sports. That really pumps us up for Saturday’s ride." Team Ride-On’s roster includes Paralympians Chris Waddell of Park City, Utah and Sarah Will of Edwards, Colo. Both mono skiers are the most decorated Paralympians in their disciplines and both attended college in Vermont. "We are delighted to see the Kelly Brush Century Ride growing year after year, both in participation and in financial support," said Charlie Brush, Kelly Brush Foundation president. "We started this ride four years ago with a few dozen members of the Middlebury College Ski Team. We had no idea of its potential and are touched by the true team effort of the hundreds of riders who come together to support the foundation, and have a good time doing it!" The 100-mile bicycle ride benefits spinal cord injury prevention and awareness and funds grants for adaptive sports equipment for those with SCI. The ride also supports the foundation’s grants for improving ski racing safety. For every $5,000 raised as part of the Kelly Brush Century Ride the foundation will donate a hand cycle or other adaptive sports equipment on behalf of the team or individual. Over 360 riders participated in last year’s ride raising $135,000. Cyclists may participate in the scenic ride through the Lake Champlain Valley, riding either 25, 50 or 100 miles, competing to raise the most money. Riders may also enter as a fundraising team. The century ride supports the Kelly Brush Foundation, founded by Middlebury College graduate and ski team member Kelly Brush. The foundation raises awareness about ski racing safety, provides adaptive sports equipment for those with spinal cord injury, works to advance research on spinal cord injury, works to increase ski racing safety through grants to clubs throughout the USA and supports the U.S. Adaptive Ski Team. The Kelly Brush Century Ride is made possible thanks to the generosity of sponsors including: Audi, KeyBank, Saatchi and Saatchi and Champlain Investment Partners. To support Team Ride-On with a donation or to register for the ride please visit www.kellybrushfoundation.org. On line registration closes on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at midnight. About the foundation: The Kelly Brush Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving ski racing safety, enhancing the quality of life for those with spinal cord injury(SCI) through providing adaptive sports equipment, advancing scientific research on SCI and supporting the U.S. Adaptive Ski Team. Kelly Brush, together with her family, started the foundation in 2006 after she sustained a severe spinal cord injury while racing in NCAA Div. 1 competition as a member of the Middlebury College Ski Team in Vermont. The Kelly Brush Foundation affirms Kelly’s ongoing commitment to live life on her own terms and better the lives of others living with SCI. www.kellybrushfoundation.org TEAM RIDE-ON
